CONFERENCE THEME
The 48th annual SRFIDC theme is Changing Tides: Equity-Minded Teaching in Higher Education. Conference sessions will explore concepts, program, and research to engaging our stakeholders (students, faculty, leaders, and community partners) in learning experiences, supporting our own professional development and well-being, and strategic planning and reporting efforts that help us to identify and share the story of what matters in our work.

Conference sessions will explore concepts, program, and research to engaging our stakeholders (students, faculty, leaders, and community partners) in learning experiences, supporting our own professional development and well-being, and strategic planning and reporting efforts that help us to identify and share the story of what matters in our work.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Flower Darby is an international speaker that celebrates and promotes effective teaching in all modalities to advance equitable learning outcomes for all students. She’s an Associate Director of the Teaching for Learning Center at the University of Missouri. Prior to that, she held roles such as Assistant Dean of Online and Innovative Pedagogies, Director of Teaching for Student Success, and Senior Instructional Designer. These roles have allowed her to build on her experience teaching in person and online for over 27 years in a range of subjects including English, Technology, Education, Leadership, Dance, and Pilates. In her current work and publications, Darby empowers faculty to teach inclusive and equity-focused classes in all modalities. Her recent books include The Norton Guide to Equity-Minded Teaching (2023) and Small Teaching Online: Applying Learning Science in Online Classes (2019).
All conference participants will receive a copy of Flower Darby’s most recently co-authored book, The Norton Guide to Equity-Minded Teaching.

We will be hosting two separate conference experiences to accommodate a wider audience. The virtual-only event will take place on Monday, March 11, 2024, and include sessions exclusive to the virtual conference. The in-person event held March 13-15, 2024 will feature 50-minute workshops and a poster session.

SESSION DESCRIPTIONS
50 minute sessions
These sessions will allow presenters to use a workshop format to share ideas, approaches, or research on any of the potential topics and conference themes. Successful proposals will articulate the value of the content to be shared, a theoretical background where appropriate, as well as a plan for activities designed to promote audience interaction.
Poster sessions
Posters may present preliminary research on issues related to teaching and learning as well as completed projects. They may also share an idea, approach, tip, technique, or tool relevant to the conference audiences, topics, and themes. During the poster session, at least one author should attend to present and discuss the work with other conference attendees. The poster session has become a central and lively part of the SRFIDC conference.

- Poster presentation – presenting a quick take on your research (can be in process or completed studies), achievements, or insights on a topic relevant teaching and learning and the conference theme.

PREPARING YOUR PROPOSAL
- Session Title
- Session Abstract (100 words or less). This is the abstract for your presentation as it will appear in the conference program. The abstract should be geared toward your audience and be clear, concise, and engaging. It should accurately convey the topic and scope of the presentation and suggest the activities, outcomes, or deliverables the audience will leave with.
- Session Description (250 words). This information will be used to help select presentation proposals. It will not appear in the conference program. Please provide a detailed description of additional background information, the purpose of your presentation, and how your presentation is unique and different on this topic. The description should include how you will connect to the theme of the conference.
- Session Interactive Component (100 words or less). What are your plans for interactivity? Please be specific. This information will be used to help select presentation proposals. It will not appear in the conference program.
- References. Please share any relevant references for your presentation in this section. Less is more – we do not need a full bibliography but rather would like to see if there is a scholarly conversation your session is engaging. It is fine to leave this blank depending on your session type and goals.
